Bayern interested in Christian Pulisic

Bayern Munich are reportedly set to make a summer move for Borussia Dortmund sensation Christian Pulisic.

According to SportBild (h/t Calciomercato), the Bundesliga champions are keen to reinforce their attacking options and want to add a long-term successor for the likes of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

It appears as though 19-year-old Pulisic is one of their top targets; here’s a look at how the story was covered in the German press:

As noted by Calciomercato, the teenager has been linked with a number of clubs since he burst on to the scene, including Manchester United and Liverpool.

The United States international is said to have a market value of around €45 million (£40 million), although Dortmund are ready to dig their heels in in the face of any approach and only sell for a much higher price.

That’s understandable, as Pulisic is among the brightest prospects in world football. Following the sale of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal on Wednesday, per the Arsenal website, you sense the American’s role in the BVB side will grow in importance.

As noted by Scouted Football, based on the recent acquisitions made by Dortmund, they are a club building for a bright future:

Of the players aforementioned, Pulisic is arguably the crown jewel, as he’s already showcased the talent needed to make an impression in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.

There are so many exciting facets to his game. The youngster is a brilliant technician and clever in the way he uses the ball. Additionally, Pulisic boasts a change of pace and quick feet that allow him to leave opposition defenders standing.

Ronan Murphy of Goal isn’t surprised to see Bayern looking at Pulisic given the precedent they’ve set in signing the Bundesliga’s best in the past:

Indeed, the recent capture of Leon Goretzka suggests the Munich outfit are conscious of building a team for the future.

The manner in which the team invests in the attacking positions will be especially important. In the wide areas, Robben and Ribery have been important to Bayern’s recent dominance, and while they remain major threats, they are each in the twilight of their careers.

Pulisic’s future may be as a No. 10, although he’s showcased a versatility in where he can be utilised at Dortmund.

Mark Lovell of ESPN FC believes the big issue for Bayern will be finding the money to afford him:

Although Dortmund have shown in recent years that they’re happy to let their top players go for a big fee, they will feel as though Pulisic has a lot more to offer at the Westfalenstadion.

The player still has a lot to learn and plenty of developing to do. So while the chance to join Bayern and challenge for the biggest honours would be tempting, another season at Dortmund would possibly be a sensible step for the youngster to take at this juncture.
