Ray Wilkins, former Chelsea player, has questioned Mesut Ozil and claimed that the German “is not a great player” (via The Mirror).
One of the most divisive issues at Arsenal right now is the futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
Both players’ contracts expire at the end of the season and with the January transfer window coming up, it seems unlikely that the pair will stay.
So, how much would Arsenal actually miss the pair? Sanchez is undoubtedly a loss but fans are divided about Mesut Ozil and now, former Chelsea player and manager, Ray Wilkins has weighed in on the debate.
“He is not a great player so why should he wear 10?” Wilkins told talkSPORT.
“I think the word ‘great’ is used far too often. I don’t think he has ever been a great player.
“You see him in the Premier League week in week out, he’s a good player, he’s a very good player. But the word ‘great’ is used far too often in this game.”
Mesut Ozil hasn’t exactly set the world alight at times during his Arsenal career. The German was a wonderful player for Real Madrid but hasn’t carried that form over to England on a consistent basis.
