Bayern face VFL Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena in the Bundesliga round 14.
Wolfsburg have a very tough task when the visit the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon. They are coming to Munich after two losses in the last three matches. Wolfsburg coach Valerien Ismael stressed at the press conference that match against Bayern will be the toughest away game of the season.
He also added that the most important thing for a coach is to sense the willingness of his players to take the path they have chosen together.
“Everything will have to work out perfectly on the day. Our tactics, the leg-work and our willingness will have to be exactly right. Naturally we are going to need some fortune on our side too.”
“I can sense the fate the team have in me and I have every fate in them too. At the moment we are in something of a result related crisis and that’s something we are working on.” – commented Ismael.
Maximilian Arnold (fifth booking) and Paul Seguin (red card against Hertha BSC) are both suspended for the match against Bayern.
Head to head
Wolfsburg have won just 9% of their competitive meetings with FC Bayern, losing 75% of matches – both are clear negative records for the Wolves.
FCB have won 21 of their 22 home games in all competitions against VfL (also 3-3 in December 2001). The Bavarians have scored 62 goals in that period (2.8 per game) and let in 15 (0.7).
Robert Lewandowski netted five goals in eight minutes and 59 seconds when the sides met in Munich on matchday six last season – the quickest five-goal haul in Bundesliga history.
That game saw him enter the record books as the scorer of the quickest hat-trick and four-goal salvo in Bundesliga history. He also became the first substitute to score more than three goals in the top flight. The Pole has now scored 10 goals in 11 Bundesliga games vs. Wolfsburg.
Bayern have won their last nine Bundesliga games when they have not been top of the table. Their last such loss dates back to April 2012 (1-0 in Dortmund). They won 21 of the subsequent matches in this scenario (W21, D5).
The Bavarians have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five league games, something which hasn’t happened for five years. The last time they went on a longer run of conceding in the Bundesliga was between April and August 2011 (7; spanning multiple seasons).
The Wolves have won eight of their 10 points this season away from home. All four of their competitive victories this season have come on the road (two DFB Cup ties, two league games).
FCB have exactly three times as many points on the board (30) as Wolfsburg (10).
