Renato Sanches speaks to Portugese press about the reason he left Bayern on loan

A year ago, Renato Sanches was living the dream. The youngster had just been in Portugal’s Euro 2016 winning squad, and following his €35m move from Benfica to Bayern, there was a great season ahead.

But the midfielder struggled to settle in at the German club, and like many youngsters, he had to face a few more obstacles to succeed at the top level. That’s why he hasn’t been called up for the national team’s main squad, and is now on loan at Swansea City, were he expects he can find his good form again.

Sanches spent the international break playing for the U21s, and after the 2-0 win over Wales, he spoke to the local press about the current moment he’s living.

“I went to Swansea to play more and evolve. When we play we are more seen and then we have more chances to get to the national team’s first squad.” (via A Bola)

Sanches was picked by newspaper O Jogo as the man of the match, being Portugal’s most creative man, and was also praised for winning almost all the of the challenges he was involved in.

That will certainly be needed in the Premier League, and his performance will be an encouragement for Swansea City. Sanches knows a good season in the Premier League could lead him to a place in Portugal’s World Cup squad, another reason to be optimistic for Paul Clement and Swansea.
