A Bayern lineup with Leon Goretzka in the team

Bayern have reportedly won the race to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.

According to Jose Felix Diaz of Marca, despite interest from Barcelona and Liverpool, the Germany international will make the switch to the Allianz Arena in the summer. Goretzka’s contract at Schalke is set to expire at the end of the season.

“One of the most sought-after players whose contract was coming to an end, Bayern actually secured his signature months ago, when he didn’t renew with Schalke,” said Diaz. “The Catalans tested the waters recently but noted the intention of the player to move to the Allianz Arena.”

The Schalke 04 player is able to play the Vidal role, as well as a box-to-box midfielder, which means should Vidal stay, they can play together in the same system.

The amount of clubs linked with Goretzka is no surprise, as the Schalke man is one of the best prospects in Germany at the moment.

His potential has always been evident since bursting on the scene at Veltins-Arena, but it’s only over the last couple of campaigns where Goretzka has found some crucial consistency. He’s been at the hub of Schalke’s excellent form this term.

He’s a man for all occasions. Goretzka is multifaceted, able to use his technical quality to control matches, his combativeness to break lines and his football intelligence to find smart positions on the pitch.

Aside from Goretzka, Julian Draxler is also being linked with  a move at Bayern. The Paris Saint-Germain player is not getting enough playing time in the French capital and could be open to leaving. Bayern are said to be working on bringing him as a Ribery replacement.

While Goretzka will be Vidal’s replacement, Julian Draxler could be joining to replace Ribery. Below is how we believe Bayern will line up should both players sign for the club.

Defence

Manuel Neuer is the undisputed number one at the club and will continue to be as long as the best goalkeeper in the world is healthy.

No matter who takes over at Bayern at the end of the season, Bayern are most certainly going to continue with the 4-2-3-1 formation. We believe Bayern defence will consist of Kimmich and Alaba on the flanks, and Hummels and Boateng will form the duo in central defence.

Midfield

Julian Draxler and Kingsley Coman will be the wingers. Thiago and Goretkza will form the double pivot, James Rodriguez will be the man behind Robert Lewandowski.

Attack

Robert Lewandowski is the perfect number nine.  He’s among the best there is, and he’s more involved in the game. He plays to his strengths very cleverly, and he’s got better with the ball.
