Jupp Heynckes has given a big update on Manuel Neuer’s World Cup hopes following his return to training from a long-term injury.
The German goalkeeper is still considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in world football and will be pivotal in his countries World Cup chances.
Though, he not played for Bayern Munich since his injury back in September last year and has missed a full season of football.
While he has recently returned to the training pitch, Jupp Heynckes recently revealed he will not play in the final Bundesliga game this season.
Though, there is still a chance for him to play in the DFB-Pokal Final against Frankfurt.
Now, the Bayern boss has revealed that he is optimistic that the player will make Germany’s training camp before the tournament.
That means that he would likely be fit, though it would then be up to Joachim Löw if he wanted to play them or not.
“Things are also looking good for Manuel Neuer,” he explained.
“He was in goal during attacking drills yesterday and is doing everything in training that a modern goalkeeper needs to be able to do.
“I’m very optimistic that Manuel Neuer will make Germany’s training camp.
“We’ll know next week whether or not he will be in the squad for Berlin. But, from what I’ve seen today, I’m confident he will be an option.”
