Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in record-breaking transfer

According to Sport, Coutinho will seal a January move to the Nou Camp for Liverpool’s £133m asking price, which will make him the biggest ever sale by a Premier League club.

The Brazil international will also become the third most expensive signing in football history, just behind what BBC Sport had as a £135.5million fee Barca paid for Ousmane Dembele in the summer.

Coutinho has risen to become one of the best players in Europe since moving to Liverpool back in 2013, and his fine performances now look set to earn him his big move.

BBC Sport claimed in the summer that Liverpool turned down three bids for the 25-year-old, the last of which was in the region of £114million.

While losing Coutinho to Barcelona will undoubtedly be a huge blow to Jurgen Klopp in the second half of the season, that kind of money should give him plenty of opportunities to strengthen and bring in a top class replacement.

All in all, this doesn’t look bad business for Liverpool as they arguably did well to hold on to such a top class player for as long as they did.
