Rumors: Bayern interested in Andrej Kramaric

Andrej Kramaric has played yet another incredible season for TSG Hoffenheim.

If you watched Hoffenheim play Dortmund last weekend, you saw Kramaric almost single-handed cement Hoffenheim’s Champions League berth and third place in the Bundesliga. Kramaric scored the go-ahead goal and assisted the 2-1 that restored Hoffenheim’s lead. They went on to win 3-1, passing Dortmund on the table by a single goal.

Various reports have identified Kramaric as one of incoming coach Niko Kovac’s top targets for Bayern.

Kramaric, like Kovac, is Croatian, and it was Kovac himself who called Kramaric up to Croatia’s senior national team in 2014. Kramaric played under Kovac until the latter’s contract was terminated in 2015.

Kramaric is a highly versatile offensive player. He plays predominantly as a center-forward, but can also play on the wings and this season has dropped deeper into the central midfield for Hoffenheim. Under Julian Nagelsmann, he has developed into a very consistent scorer since his transfer from Leicester in 2016: this season, Kramaric scored 13 goals (including 2 penalties) and assisted 9, following 18 goals and 8 assists in 2016-2017.

Speaking to Goal.com, Kramaric acknowledged the rumored interest of Bayern:

I saw what the media have said [about Bayern’s interest] but take it easy, there is plenty of time. My priority is the World Cup now. There is plenty of time to discuss a potential transfer.

That sounds nothing like a denial. If Bayern are genuinely interested in Kramaric, he seems amenable. The question then becomes what terms Hoffenheim would ask for a transfer: Kramaric is signed through 2020. And of course, where would Niko Kovac play him?
