Liverpool are in the mix for their sixth European crown this season.
After overcoming the tough challenge of Manchester City in the quarter-finals, the Reds have one foot in the final upon a 5-2 demolition of AS Roma on Tuesday night. Only two late away goals from the Italians put a dampener on an otherwise immaculate performance.
Then, attention turned to the second semi-final tie and the meeting of two European juggernauts – Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Under the lights of the Allianz Arena, it was Los Blancos that took the initiative and the victory in a closely contested clash.
Joshua Kimmich fired the Germans into the lead, defying Keylor Navas at his near post, before Marcelo continued his fine form in the Champions League with a well struck volley.
Then, in the 57th minute, Real took the lead virtue of Marco Asensio and a lethal counterattack.
Nevertheless, neither side covered themselves in glory across the 90 minutes and it’s all to play for going into the second leg at the Bernabeu.
And while there’s still a second leg for Liverpool to overcome, too, the BT Sport pundits couldn’t resist wondering how the Reds would fare against both teams if they were to meet in the final.
